The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team based in the Greater Los Angeles Area. The Rams compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member club of the league’s National Football Conference (NFC) West division. The franchise began in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams, located in Cleveland, Ohio. The club was owned by Homer Marshman and featured players such as future Hall of Famers Norm Van Brocklin, Tom Fears and Bob Waterfield. After 45 years in Cleveland, the team moved to Los Angeles prior to the 1980 season. In 2018, they returned to their original city as part of an agreement between NFL owners following Stan Kroenke’s purchase of 60 percent of their former home stadium’s land.
